About Domus
THE CORE PRINCIPLES OF DOMUS
  • Our work is about the kids.
  • Everyone should be treated with respect and dignity.
  • We believe in viewing and developing the strengths of our youth, staff, and families.
  • We engage in a holistic approach to serving and supporting our youth and their families.
  • Loving relationships change people.
  • People should have many chances to learn and grow from their mistakes.
  • Youth and families are resources in creating programs, not just recipients of services, and should therefore have a strong voice in the decision-making process.
  • Consequences should teach people new skills, not merely punish them.
  • We set high standards. There is always room for improvement.
  • Our programs’ environments are safe, inviting, attractive, and inclusive.
  • We should provide opportunities for young people which connect them with their community.
  • The celebration of successes, life events, and holidays is important to the growth of individuals, families, and communities.
  • We never give up on people.

Since 1972, Domus has helped hundreds of our region’s most vulnerable youth and their families experience success. The love, structure, and support we provide at our charter schools, residential programs, and community programs enable our kids and families to reach their full potential. Children are learning independent living and job skills, improving their academic performance, and developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Our ability to build relationships helps kids and families who may be struggling in school or in life focus on their strengths and make good choices. The result? Happier, healthier people who can fully contribute their talents to the communities in which they live and work.
