1. Jewel in the Rough Gala: May 8, 2010
Greenwich
Country Club
A jewel in the rough: Someone who, when transformed with
love and care, will reveal his or her great, unseen potential.
Our kids--jewels in the rough--are transformed by the love
and care your support makes possible. Come be part of the solution
and enjoy a fun night of dinner, dancing to Paul Lacano & The
Cocktail Shakers, and live and silent auctions. You'll hear directly from
a young person who's been helped by Domus and your support. It's our
biggest, most fun event of the year! There's still time to be a
sponsor--email Garland for details, or get on the invite list by
emailing PJ.
2. Measuring
our results with a new tool
Thanks to several progressive funders, we're kicking off
the use of sophisticated results-tracking software called Efforts to Outcomes
(ETO). ETO is used by high-performing organizations across the
nation to ensure the work they do is achieving the desired impact.
Last week, we started entering data and are looking forward to using
reports to see where we can improve and demonstrating the change we make
possible.
3. Inaugural:
i-n-a-...uhhhh...
The inaugural The
Sting: A Spelling Bee for Grown-Ups was a huge hit!
Many thanks to presenting sponsor Pitney
Bowes for making the event possible--their
commitment to literacy is long-lasting and firm. The big winner? The UConn Spellbinders,
fighting off stiff competition from teams from McKinsey, GE, and
more. We're making room for even more teams next year, so get
on our mailing list to be notified when we release details. Then maybe
you too can win an inflatable trophy proving your spelling prowess.
4. Domus
honored with regional award
The Nellie Mae
Education Foundation honored Domus with one of only 12
$50,000 awards to organizations working to provide personalized
student-centered learning experiences across New
England. We were the only Connecticut honoree!
