1. Bank of America
Foundation awards Domus $200,000
Domus was one of only two Fairfield County
nonprofits to receive a $200,000 grant through Bank of America's
Charitable Foundation. Their Neighborhood
Excellence Initiative helps communities address critical
social issues, and because it's unrestricted, we can put it toward the
initiative we think will yield the best results for our kids and
families. Thanks, Bank of America!
2. Transforming
the holidays: You made it happen
"Christmas is not only about gifts, it is also about
hope, love, and compassion, and you showed us that. To tell you the
truth, I had already told my kids that we weren't going to buy any
gifts." That's a thank-you note from a Domus family who was
adopted by a Holiday Angel this season--a family that was not going to be
opening gifts this year, and a mom seized with sorrow. There are many
dozens more just like it, expressing gratitude for how your generosity
changed lives and saying thank
you with more heart than we ever could. Our corporate
and community partners collected hundreds of gifts for our shopping mall
through gift drives, where families could pick out the perfect presents
for their children. Nearly
$100,000 in gifts, food, and cash came in to help
our kids and families make the holidays special--wow!
3. A
new type of competition on March 11, 2010 (no, not dancing)
This ain't your middle school spelling bee, friend. The
competition will get heated...don't think your college pals or colleagues
down the hall will let you win without a fight. But don't worry: There's
less pressure since you and two pals spell as a team. Sign up
now: A team of 3 spellers and 6 cheerleaders is only $300, which
gets you pizza, beer, salty snacks (that's right...leave your bow
tie and sequins at home), and maybe even a trophy, if you're good enough.
Forms for The
Sting: A Spelling Bee for Grown-Ups are available
now from Garland and will soon be up at www.domuskids.org. Many thanks to
presenting sponsor Pitney
Bowes!
