April 2009
The weather was perfect for a day of hunting for and coloring Easter eggs. With over 700 eggs hidden and 250 hard boiled eggs, the kids had a wonderful time. There was so much excitement about who could find the most and making sure every inch of outside was searched for eggs. Even the middle school students got in the spirit. It was a wonderful day.  A very special thanks to the members of Trinity Church for their donation of hard boiled and plastic eggs for the Easter celebration.

Chester Addison Community Center teens braved the rain to do some Earth Day community service by cleaning up Southfield Park. The small group of teens went to clean up the park as part of their monthly community service. Although the rain did not let up, they were able to get a lot done and even smiled while doing it. Great Job!

Thanks to Lucas Swineford and his wife Stacey, the kids at Chester Addison got a lesson in what baseball is really all about, teamwork, fairness, and giving back to your community. Lucas and Stacey started a group called Baseball Fans Give Back which is a group aimed at bringing the honesty and sportsmanship back to baseball. The afternoon started with talks about what it means to be part of a team and the legacy of Roberto Clemente, and then moved outside to play some ball.  The kids had a great time and were given hats to remember their day.
Chester Addison really appreciates their teachers and wanted to honor them for Teacher Appreciation Dinner. Students who had excellent report cards, behavior or had shown vast improvement were able to invite their favorite school personnel to a dinner honoring them.  We had over 75 teacher, students and their parents to celebrate.  All of the students presented their guests with a lapel pin stating “I make a difference in the lives of children.” Thanks teachers and Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!!!
buildOn, formerly known as Building with Books, came to Chester Addison on May 9, 2009 for an arts and crafts festival. With 15 different stations to choose from, kids could create anything from caterpillars made of egg cartons to cool pencil toppers. Face painting was one of the most popular sites! With over 50 attendees and close to 100 buildOn volunteers, the day was a huge success and the kids had a blast. Each child got to leave with a bag full of books.  A very special thank you to buildOn for putting on the event and donating all of the extra art supplies and games.

On Monday, May 11, 2009, we celebrated with the community seniors for our annual Mother’s Day luncheon.  We had a great turn out and made it a relaxing and fun day.  All of the seniors had a great time.  We ended the day with a raffle for gift cards to Shop Rite.  They were 4 lucky winners.  Happy Mother’s Day to all our beautiful Moms!

On the weekend of June 12, 2009, 10 boys attended a weekend long camping trip after participating in a 6-week wilderness program. The program, started by Officer Jerry Junes, and was a huge success! The boys had a great time and learned how to survive in the wilderness. They pitched tents, cooked their own food and even fished!  A special thanks to the Resident Council and BCJ who sponsored the trip.  A very special thanks to Officer Junes who made the entire program possible.

Summer Camp

Another great year of summer camp has come and gone and boy were we busy!  From academics and swimming to field trips and lacrosse, there was so much to do. We visited Cove Beach, the Maritime Center, the Beardsley Zoo, the Stamford Museum and Nature Center and of course Lake Compounce.  All of the trips were a lot of fun. We had swimming, girl scouts, tennis, African drumming, lacrosse and dance to keep us busy throughout the day.  As always camp ended with our talent showcase and dinner. The theme for this year’s show was Sounds from the Decades, groups performed to songs from the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and today.  It was a great evening.
Lacrosse with TJ – We were able to learn lacrosse from a great teacher this summer when TJ came to give us some lessons.
Dance with Emma – Ballet was a blast with Emma teaching us all of the basics and showing us how to be ballerinas.
Academics – Sometimes when it was really nice out, we were able to take our learning outside and hear a story on the grass.
Camp Activities – Look at the puzzle we were able to complete with team work and cooperation
End of Camp Show and Dinner We worked really hard to put on a great performance for our families, and we did!  The night was a huge success.
Recently the children of Trinity Church and Chester Addison teamed with some of their parents on a joint mission to spruce up the community center. Thank you to all those who volunteered it was a fun event, and the center looks GREAT!
Members of the Chester Addison Community Center were invited to the Loft Artist Association to express themselves artistically. Our members created flags expressing who they are and some of their interest. Their work will be on display in the Loft Artist Association Open Studio next month.

Holiday Pageant
With our biggest turnout ever, Chester Addison celebrated the holidays with a festive pageant and wonderful dinner.  Over 350 people attended the event and the kids did a wonderful job with their performances.  As a special treat, the kids made ornaments for their parents and were able to present them to them that evening.  It was a wonderful evening.

Kwanzaa
What an amazing performance by the Chester Addison drummers and dancers!!  They worked so hard and it shows.  Four of the dancers have put in so much time and effort that they were presented with their own drum by Mr. Jones.  What an honor!  Great Job Girls!

Thanksgiving Celebration
We had our annual Thanksgiving Dinner on November 23rd and we had a great turnout.  We had our biggest group of kids ever on stage sharing what they were thankful for.  We were so happy to have so many families with us to celebrate the holiday!
