This year’s gala auctioneer was Stephen Paletta who brought the right spirit and example to our cause, having just been named the winner of “Oprah’s Big Give” reality television show. Paletta outlasted nine other contestants as they traveled the country for eight weeks finding ways to impact the fates and fortunes of unsuspecting people. On Saturday, May 10, 2008, at the Greenwich Country Club, for the sake of Domus kids and their families, the big giving went on!
Chester Addison - On February 9, 2008, we celebrated Valentine’s Day a little early with a Valentine’s Day Dance. About 100 kids and parents came out to play games, eat, and dance the afternoon away. The day was filled with musical chairs, hot potato, and dance contests. Prizes were won and fun was had by all.
Chester Addison - Red Cross Visitation
On February 13, 2008, the Norm Guimond from the Red Cross came to give the seniors a presentation about being prepared for an emergency. The Senior Lunch and Learn was attended by 12 seniors who learned what to do in a flood, power outage, slip and fall and many other emergencies. They also learned how to put together an emergency kit to keep them prepared for anything that may happen.
Many thanks to the Girl Scouts troops that came by with bags of holiday gifts for our residential boys. Special thanks to Teresa Ginsberg, Leslie Alfano, Anne Fountain, Kelly Moore, Carol Ann Coughlin and Meg Galetta who led the energetic troops! Special thanks also goes out to to Mary Jo Loparco and Gina Marino!

April 17, 2009 - Teamwork. Fairness. Community Service.
Those elements combined on Friday, April 17th, at both Chester Addison Community Center and Trailblazers Academy, thanks to Baseball Fans Give Back co-founders Stacy and Lucas Swineford, who created www.baseballfansgiveback.com in response to baseball’s recent steroid scandals. Turning a negative into a positive, Lucas and Stacy volunteered the entire day at both programs. See pictures of them with our kids at Chester Addison here and at Trailblazers (pictures above) to help kids learn baseball basics as well as discuss honesty and sportsmanship. At both locations, they talked about what it means to be part of a team and the legacy of Roberto Clemente, known for his gentlemanlike behavior, and then moved outside to play some ball. The kids had a great time and were given hats to remember the day.

The May 9th Sea Glass Gala was a huge success! Pictures and details are on the way, but for now, we thank our sponsors, the event chair and committee, and supporters for making it a fun evening that raised lots of money for our kids and families.

State Representative Patricia Miller was a recent Celebrity Reader at Trailblazers Academy. The weekly Celebrity Reader program is a chance for us to reinforce with our students that literacy and the love of reading is an enriching, lifelong passion and pursuit for adults and not just something we push on kids to torture them. Adults from all walks of life share short passages from their favorite books, exposing our students to a range of literary works from presidential biographies to science fiction. Thanks, Representative Miller!
